Hindang caves and wild monkeys
Hindang Caves, a captivating network of rocky paths nestled within nature. As you explore the area, keep an eye out for the lively wild monkeys that call it home. These monkeys add an element of liveliness to the surroundings and make your visit to Hindang Caves even more memorable.
There's a snack bar at the entrance and you can also buy t-shirts and souvenirs.
We were met at the entrance by a very nice man who told us about the rules.. it's not permitted to take food on the tour and no flavoured drinks but water is fine. The only other rule which is kinda obvious is that you shouldn't bother the monkeys.. it's okay if they come to you (and they do sometimes) but Don't try to get too close to them.. you probably won't get into trouble with the handlers but the monkeys can get a tad angry.
It's quite a steep path to get up to the caves and there's some very high steps to climbso make sure to take enough water with you, you'll need it. Every now and then monkeys will appear on the way up so keep your valuables close to you because given the opportunity they will decide that they have a more important use for them than you.
Once you get up there it is rather nice, there's several caves there and nobody will stop you if you want to go inside them but maybe it's not such a good idea. Get very close to the entrances if you want a look or take some photos and you'll be fine but unless you like bats and the smells that accompany them and flying, biting cockroaches it will be more enjoyable not to enter them.
But despite that it was a very pleasant day out and a great experience getting so close to the monkeys. A few of them were tame enough that one of the handlers could coax them to sit on people's shoulders.
I'll leave you with some more pictures of the place and the surrounding area, if you get the opportunity please go there, it's fun for adults and kids and the low entrance fee of 20 pesos (price when we were there middle of July 2023) helps the monkeys and conservation of the natural beauty there.
I wish you all a wonderful day 🙂
