Now let’s start our Bali journey.

Our first destination is one of the most important and iconic places in Bali-

Tanah Lot Temple

Tanah Lot Temple

We are standing at one of the most famous attractions in Bali, known as Tanah Lot Temple. This temple is uniquely built on a rock formation in the middle of the sea. What makes it special is that you can only walk to the temple when the sea level is low.

During low tide, a natural pathway appears, allowing visitors to walk across and visit the temple. When the tide is high, the temple is completely surrounded by water, creating a stunning and unforgettable view.

Tanah Lot Temple is not just a religious site but also one of the most photographed and visited Bali tourist places, making it a must-see spot for every traveler.

Tanah Lot Temple: Best Time to Visit, Location & Experience

However, it’s important to note that Tanah Lot Temple cannot be visited during high tide. When the sea level rises, the pathway disappears, and entry to the temple is restricted.

That said, whenever you visit Tanah Lot Temple, the surrounding area itself feels incredibly beautiful. You get to witness the stunning Bali sea, and when the ocean waves crash against the rocks, the view becomes truly unforgettable. It’s one of those sights that stays with you long after your trip ends.

According to Balinese mythology, this temple was built following ancient beliefs. It is also believed that the temple is protected by several venomous sea snakes and spiritual energies. These stories add a sense of mystery and uniqueness to the place, making it even more fascinating for visitors.

Location & How to Reach Tanah Lot Temple

Tanah Lot Temple is located near Beraban Village in the Tabanan Regency of Bali. From Bali’s city center, it usually takes around 1 to 1.5 hours to reach the temple, depending on traffic.

Even though the travel time may seem long, this is one place in Bali that you absolutely should not miss. It’s considered one of the most iconic places to see in Bali.

Nearby Temples & Scenic Views

Right next to Tanah Lot Temple, you’ll also find several smaller temples, such as Batu Bolong Temple. The view from these nearby spots is equally breathtaking. From here, you can enjoy panoramic sea views that feel calm, peaceful, and unforgettable.

Once you arrive in this area, you’ll hardly notice how 1 to 1.5 hours pass by. The atmosphere, scenery, and surroundings keep you fully engaged.

Discovering Bali’s Famous Luwak Coffee

At Tanah Lot Temple, we also discovered something truly unique to Indonesia—the famous Luwak Coffee. This was something we hadn’t seen anywhere else before.

Here, we learned in detail about Luwak Coffee, which is made using coffee beans that pass through an animal called the Luwak (civet). Around the temple area, there are several coffee plantations where you can see the process closely.

What makes this place even more interesting is the variety of plantations. Along with regular coffee plants, you’ll also find cocoa beans, ginger, and many other flavor-based plants. Each plant produces a different taste and aroma.

But the most surprising and unique part is the coffee made from the Luwak animal’s droppings, popularly known as Luwak Coffee. This raises a common question among travelers—

What exactly is Luwak Coffee, and why is it so famous?

Tanah Lot Temple: Timings, Entry Fee & Key Details

The animal used in making Luwak Coffee feeds only on coffee beans. As you can see, all the important information about Tanah Lot Temple is displayed clearly.

Nusa Penida

If you want to visit a destination that feels even more perfect than Bali itself, then you must plan a trip to Nusa Penida.

Yes, Nusa Penida Island is located just one hour away from Bali, and to reach there, you need to take a boat ride. This island is perfect for a full-day trip, as it offers multiple breathtaking attractions.

What to Do at Nusa Penida Island

Nusa Penida is known for its large natural attractions and crystal-clear waters. Along with sightseeing, you can enjoy several water activities, including:

  • Snorkeling

  • Underwater diving

  • Other adventure activities that are unique to Nusa Penida

To visit this island, you usually need to book a day tour. The tour includes pickup from your hotel, transfer to the pier, and then a speed boat or cruise ride to Nusa Penida.

Snorkeling & Diving Experience

Once you reach the island, one of the first activities you can do is snorkeling or underwater diving. These activities are usually not included in the basic day tour, so you’ll need to pay separately for them.

The underwater life here is one of the main reasons why Nusa Penida is considered one of the best places to visit near Bali.

Exploring Nusa Penida Island After Snorkeling

After finishing snorkeling or underwater diving, you can begin exploring Nusa Penida Island. This island is packed with dramatic landscapes and world-famous natural attractions.

Angel’s Billabong – The Natural Infinity Pool

The first place you’ll usually visit on Nusa Penida is Angel’s Billabong.

Right behind me, you can see Angel’s Billabong—this is a natural infinity pool. You may have seen reels or videos where ocean waves flow in and out of a rock pool. During high tide, many people jump in to swim because it looks like a perfect infinity pool.

However, this place is extremely dangerous.

Angel’s Billabong is one of the few natural pools where sea waves enter directly into the pool. The risk comes from the sharp, pointed volcanic rocks on both sides. If strong waves enter while someone is inside, they can get trapped between the rocks, which can be fatal.

So while it looks beautiful, swimming here during high tide is not safe and should be avoided.

Broken Beach & Manta Bay Snorkeling

Right next to Angel’s Billabong, you’ll also see Broken Beach, a stunning cliff formation with a natural arch.

Nearby is Manta Bay, one of the best snorkeling spots in Bali. From above, you can often see multiple boats anchored here for snorkeling trips.

People snorkel here to see giant manta rays. I could even spot a huge manta fish swimming from up here, which makes you wonder how incredible the experience must be for those snorkeling underwater.

Because of this marine life, Manta Bay is considered one of the best snorkeling places in Bali.

Kelingking Beach – The Most Famous Beach in the World

At the end of your Nusa Penida trip, you’ll visit the island’s most iconic attraction

Kelingking Beach

Yes, Kelingking Beach is one of the most famous beaches in the world. It’s often called the most beautiful beach on Nusa Penida—and even in Bali.

This beach is globally famous, and you’ll find visitors from almost every country coming here just to witness its beauty. You can view this beach from the Kelingking cliff viewpoint, which offers a jaw-dropping panoramic view of the ocean and coastline.

Dramatic Limestone Cliffs & Natural Beauty of Nusa Penida

This area of Nusa Penida Island is surrounded by massive limestone cliffs. When the ocean waves crash against these limestone mountains, you can see natural coral formations developing on the edges. These coral shades look incredibly beautiful and add a unique charm to the landscape.

Another important thing to know is that you can go down from the cliff to the beach below. Many people do go down, but keep in mind—these cliffs are very high. Climbing back up can take a lot of time and energy, and it can be quite exhausting.
